How To Make Mask At Home

Learn how to make mask at home using materials you probably have lying around the house. With most of the masks sold out or out of stock, we were compelled to DIY this face mask for whatever little protection and mostly peace of mind that this can offer. These masks are in no way similar to the surgical masks but are a makeshift solution to this shortage in the market. And with all the time in our hand being at home this how to make mask at home DIY project can be a useful way to kill time.

So, let’s get started.

Materials Required:

How To Make Mask Materials
  • Cotton Cloth
  • Elastic
  • Ruler
  • Scissors
  • Pencil
  • Needle
  • Thread
  • Iron

Instructions:

  1. Cut out a piece of cotton fabric 20 cm * 20 cm
  2. Make 3 to 4 step like folds as shown in the image below
  3. Iron the fabric to press the crease of the folds. This will help in keeping the shape in place while sewing
  4. Now fold the sides of the fabric and press
  5. Similarly fold and crease the top and bottom edges
  6. Start sewing the top and bottom edge of the mask
  7. Now sew the sides and while doing so, insert the elastic band to form a loop.
  8. Make sure that elastic is tight and secure so that it doesn’t snap out of place once stretched.

So, this is how to make mask at home using leftover or recycled fabric and some elastic. Make sure that the fabric you are using is properly washed and disinfected too. In case you cannot find elastic, you can also make thin strips of fabric and attach to the sides of the DIY mask so that you can tie it around.
